you will remember that moment forever

You will hopefully forget the maddening traffic and heat of Agra but you will not forget the awe inspiring beauty of the Taj Mahal.

"Only let this one teardrop, this Taj Mahal, glisten spotlessly bright on cheek of time, forever and ever"

These are the wonderful words of great Indian poet and Noble laureate in literature, Rabindra Nath Tagore. Hard to find any better words that perfectly describe the beauty of this timeless monument.

taj - through the main gateway First look at this magnificent white marble monument through the massive main gate, you fall in love with it and you realise the truth behind the great poet's words.

It stands magestically on the banks of river Yamuna, at Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India.

It is one of 7 wonders of the modern world and one amongst UNESCO world heritage sites(1983).

It is the finest example of Mughal architecture that combines Persian, Turkish and Indian architectural styles.

Built by Emperor Shah Jahan in loving memory of his wife Mumtaj Mahal, it has a fascinating story and rich history behind its construction and its journey through time.

It took sustained efforts from 22,000 workers through 22 long years(1631-1653A.D) to complete the constuction of the Taj complex.

No effort and expenditure was spared in building this white marble monument, aptly named Taj Mahal (meaning 'Crown of palaces').

It has stood the test of time, braved the elements and the pollution, survived through wars and inspite of looting by various invaders it still mesmerises visitors by its pristine beauty.
